Lake Powell

The past few weeks (or really this entire summer), I'll be honest, have been full of play for me.  So glad I decided to drop my summer classes (shout out to the wise man who once told me "Don't let school get in the way of your education") and am currently only working about 19 hours a week.

I worked my butt off during the school year, so I deserve it, right? That's what I keep telling myself at least.

Anyway, after recovering from a few days at Lake Mead last week (see picture above), I decided to take a week off of work (it really is a summer to play) to visit Heaven with my roommate Jessi's family.  Heaven here in Utah is also sometimes referred to as Lake Powell, and as many of you probably know, most people do speak quite highly of it.

I, myself, hadn't ever been to Powell, but I now understand all the hype.

Jessi's family was generous enough to rent a houseboat and allow each of the kids to bring a few friends.  Since she is the oldest in her family, we were the oldest of all the "kids" there, and as such they liked to refer to us as "college punks."
I wonder if I thought that way as a 16 year old?

Like most, this story is better told in pictures, so I'll leave it at that.

Jessi is a pro at wake surfing. She made it look soooo easy.

 Hipster Adam

Katie is also pretty good at surfing...
But not when she tries to double with Adam

Proud to say I got up on my first try!

But it is DEFINITELY more difficult than Katie and Jessi make it appear to be.

Adam can shred on the wakeboard

And he's braver than the rest of us and tries crazy things (then takes hard falls most of the time)

 Thumbs up for boating!

Roommates/besties

McCall can shred too! Jeez so much talent in one family.

The problem with being goofy: the wake was pretty bad on the side we are supposed to use.  Look at that whitewashed mess.

Meanwhile the regular side of the wake crests into a perfect ramp.
Yes, I'll use that as my excuse.

 Lake Powell is gorgeous.

The following are a few of the best pictures of Katie from the trip. There's a reason she's my best friend.
 Lasso

 And falling shortly after.

Now for the best photo sequence from the trip
1. Stands up

 2. Throws the rope in

 3. Flaps her arms madly in an effort to keep moving

4. Pouts as she loses it.

Love you Katie Buhler.

Proud to say that I can now jump and get actual air on the wakeboard! Photographic evidence right here.

 And here.

 And here.

And this is where I landed...haha just kidding. Still working on clearing the wake.

And now for some pictures of us wiping out:

And back to shredding. Jessi with the rope in her teeth:

New trend: wearing your life vest like a diaper. It worked especially well for water aerobics.

 Urban floating diapers

Our other new favorite trend: pretending to skydive in the water. We pretty much cried the first time we all tried this because we were laughing so hard.

 He likes to attempt seduction.

Even Jessi's mom was better than us! This family drinks their shredderade every morning!

Loving the close-ups

 So pitted

Special shout-out to Ryan Hopkin. This one's for you.
The rest of you, just ignore this one because it's super uggo.

I went over to the other side of the wake and this happened. Again, super uggo, but funny.

 Why, Katie, why??

Love my roommates. So glad I could spend this week with you ladies!

Special shout-out to the Pitchers:
You guys are the bomb! Thanks for your hospitality!
